Leclanché Awarded DNV Certification for Navius MRS-3 Marine Rack System
YVERDON-LES-BAINS, Switzerland, 11th March, 2025 - Leclanché SA, a leading provider of energy storage solutions, is proud to announce that its third generation, Marine Rack System, the Navius MRS-3, has received certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), one of the world's foremost maritime classification societies. This certification confirms the MRS-3's compliance with stringent international safety and performance standards for marine applications. The MRS-3 is a state-of-the-art, modular, and scalable lithium-ion battery system designed to meet the diverse energy needs of fully electric and hybrid marine vessels. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the MRS-2, the MRS-3 offers enhanced energy density, improved modularity, and advanced safety features. Notably, it incorporates Leclanché's proprietary 65 Ah G/NMC cells, which provide a 13% increase in energy capacity compared with the previous generation, delivering 8.7 kWh per module. The cells are produced at Leclanché’s manufacturing facility in Willstätt, Germany. The MRS-3 has been designed with future cell chemistries in mind and will continue to evolve in performance, taking advantage of improving cell technology. Safety remains a key element in the MRS-3's design. The system includes multi-layer safety measures from the cell level up to the complete system, featuring a state-of-the-art Functionally Safe Battery Management System (FSBMS) and an active extinguishing system (Battery Active Safety System). The liquid-cooled architecture not only enhances performance but also reduces the system’s footprint. Phil Broad, CEO of Leclanché E-Mobility, stated, "The DNV certification of the Navius MRS-3 system is a testament to our commitment to providing the maritime industry with safe and efficient energy storage solutions. This achievement reflects our dedication to innovation and excellence in supporting the global transition towards sustainable marine transportation." The MRS-3 is poised to play a pivotal role in the electrification of a wide range of marine vessels, ranging from ferries, cruise ships and mega-yachts to offshore support vessels. Its advanced features and DNV certification make it an ideal solution for operators seeking to reduce emissions and comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations. In addition to securing DNV Type Approval, Leclanché is currently pursuing type approval from RINA, BV and Lloyd’s Register for the Navius MRS-3. Leclanché continues to lead the way in marine energy storage solutions, offering products that combine superior performance, safety, and reliability to meet the evolving needs of the maritime industry. # # #
