(RTTNews) - NewAmsterdam Pharma Company N.V. (NAMS), a late-stage, clinical biopharmaceutical company, Tuesday announced positive topline data from its Phase 3 BROADWAY study evaluating obicetrapib in adults with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and/or heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). The study met its primary goal. The company's shares were up more than 50 percent in pre-market.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is caused by plaque buildup in artery walls. Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is a genetic disorder that causes high cholesterol levels from birth.

BROADWAY study was designed to evaluate obicetrapib compared to placebo as an adjunct to maximally tolerated lipid-lowering therapies in patients with ASCVD and/or HeFH whose LDL-C is not adequately controlled. The primary endpoint of LS mean percent change from baseline in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) at day 84 compared to placebo was achieved with an LDL-C reduction of 33 percent. Further, obicetrapib was found to be well-tolerated with safety results comparable to placebo.

NewAmsterdam Pharma stock had closed at $18.52, up 0.93 percent on Monday. It has traded in the range of $9.61 - $26.35 in the last 1 year.
